Jason Tucker joins Oxbow's Admissions Team

10/02/15

I'm incredibly excited to rejoin my peers at Oxbow since my time in OS20. After leaving Napa, I attended the Corcoran College of Art + Design in Washington, DC and graduated in 2013 with a BFA in Fine Art Photography. Throughout school I worked part-time at Morton Fine Art as a graphic designer and sales associate. Somewhat simultaneously, I was hired at Duhon Photography as a studio manager and photographer, and worked directly with the owner and lead photographer for 6 years.

Sonia's Chickens by Camp Alum Phoebe Wahl

09/29/15

Phoebe Wahl has written and illustrated Sonia's Chickens a children's book published by Tundra in August.

"There's an old-fashioned feel to this simple story and its timeless illustrations, created with watercolor, collage, and colored pencil and reminiscent of Goodnight Moon in mood, design, and palette. Inside, Sonya's house is cozy and dark. In contrast, the world outside shine white, as background to text, with vignettes or a frame or portion of the opposite image spilling across the gutter." - Kirkus Reviews

An Alum of Oxbow's Summer Camp program, Phoebe attended Rhode Island School of Design graduating in 2013. Phoebe is a working artist - read her blog and visit her website.

INTO THE FURTHER

Matthew Santos just released his new album Into the Further.

"Matthew Santos might be most famous for singing the ever-popular line, "if you are what you say you are; a superstar," in Lupe Fiasco's mainstream hit, but he is so much more than that. Through his album Into the Further, he demonstrates real talent, soul and artistry. The album is extremely well crafted in instrumentation as well as pure musicianship. With a few Grammy nominations and several albums under his belt, Matthew Santos gives us yet another reason to grant him our undivided attention." - Interview with Alex Feigin, Pancakes and Whiskey.

On Saturday, January 31st, Stephen hosted Peter and Geffen Rothe in the printmaking studio for the 'christening' of the etching press, tools, and materials that they donated in honor of Peter's mother, G. H. Rothe, a renowned mezzotint artist. Former Oxbow Board member, Bonnie Levinson, was in attendance as she was the link in getting the Rothe's to Oxbow.

On learning that Peter and Geffen were looking to find a good home for his mother's studio equipment, Bonnie put the Rothe's in contact with us and the result is a really great addition to the printmaking studio. To celebrate the donation, Peter installed a plaque in honor of his mother, and Stephen printed the last plate that Peter's mother was working on at the time of her death. The donation also included many of the artist's printmaking tools and a large amount of very high
quality printmaking paper.
