Vaughn Gessley
2022/2023 Academic Dean, Environmental Science, Summer Dorm Head
Vaughn (he/him) was born and raised on the prairies of Kansas before joining the Oxbow faculty team in 2021. In the past, he’s worked managing his university’s native medicinal plant garden. In addition, he led the university’s recreational beekeeping operation and educational outreach programs. There, he gained experience with student-driven, hands-on sustainability education and found his passion for this type of place-based work. This past year he spent time researching the intersection of cultural self-definition and environmental attitudes. He obtained degrees in environmental science and psychology from the University of Kansas. Vaughn is excited to share with students his love for the natural systems we belong to, the ones we call home. He looks forward to exploring moral and identity-driven approaches to understanding environmental topics with students.
